Why You'll Love It

Amish-Built Log Home Retreat on 11 Acre Hilltop in Rural Ontario, Wisconsin

Located on a hilltop amid the quiet Ontario countryside of southwest Wisconsin's Driftless Region, this idyllic log home embodies all the tranquility, warmth, and stillness that comes to mind when one imagines log home living. It's incredibly spacious yet incorporates the cozy warmth of traditional log cabin living; it's rustic and charming yet offers many modern amenities and conveniences. Inside you'll find comfortable living combined with an extremely functional open floor plan that flows seamlessly from one room to another and its expansive deck embraces the outdoors while offering superb views of the tranquil surrounding countryside.

Amish Craftmanship

Nothing quite beats the quality of Amish craftsmanship. The Amish are generally well known for their strong work ethic, impressive crafting skills, and their ability to create attractive, longlasting woodwork. This beautiful log home was constructed in 2005 by former local Amish carpenter, Noah Bortrenger. Noah has since left the region but he and the current owners worked together to realize the homeowners' custom design. It is comprised of hundreds of locally harvested, kiln-dried, 8-inch "D" shaped pine logs. The corners are joined together in the traditional notch and pass method and the porches are supported by 48-inch frost piers to protect against frost heaving. The 10-foot by 16-foot storage shed behind the house was also constructed with traditional Amish craftsmanship.
